Artist’s Statement

My work is centred around the deeper involvement of the self in creativity, thinking about how the soul and psyche show up in the process of creating. I see painting as a space where feelings can be explored and worked through, rather than something that’s fully planned or explained from the start. There’s always a balance in my work between control and letting go. Some decisions are intentional, but others happen more spontaneously, and that mix is really important to me. It reflects how thoughts and emotions actually work, not fixed or straightforward, but constantly shifting.

I mainly work with abstraction, using colour, movement, music and gesture to express things that are hard to put into words. Instead of focusing on recognisable forms, I’m more interested in the feeling of the work and how it develops through instinct and response. A lot of the time, the painting reveals things to me as I go, rather than me controlling everything from the beginning.

Recently, I’ve found a strong connection to abstract painting and the freedom it allows. I’m drawn to how colour, rhythm, and movement can carry meaning without needing to show something literal. It’s become a big part of my practice and something I want to keep developing. Overall, my work is about creating a space where emotion and instinct can come through more freely, both for myself and for the viewer.
