Liverpool
Artist’s Statement
I am an artist born within the West Midlands; Growing up surrounded by an ever-changing society shaped my own artistry. I developed narratives within my work, which became a form of protest within my own creativity.
Creativity was always a pivotal part of my life, whether it be drawing, painting, sculpting, music, or anything else. I would always introduce personal creation. I have always been drawn to creating works of art, whether through drawing, mixed media, or experimenting with found materials. I was always doing this to explore the effect that I could have, whether on an audience or within my own mind. Naturally, I began wanting to pursue bigger things, which led me to studying fine art at Liverpool Hope University, after studying art at GCSE and A-Levels.
My practice continues to evolve, but at its core. I always commit to exploration. Most of all, creation will always be what I enjoy most, and the experience of making artwork. Lastly, as I continue to make work, I hope I can inspire others to create more.
My piece, Imperfections, was inspired by the journey of leaving Liverpool. I was inspired by the transcendent state of being on the train. Neither here nor there. In a state of flux. Hence, it showcases an unrealistic style with expressive colours.
Moreover, Long Forgotten is symbolic of several things for me. One of which is the combination of two stages of my life. The past within the house I lived in until I was 6 months old, and the tree is from where I currently live. Furthermore, I also think of it as a dream world, as it was where my parents used to love each other, and the world was “just right”. However, the colours used within the piece create a haunting undertone.
