Artist’s Statement

The inspiration for this collection of ceramic sculptures comes from the concept of idealised realism found in the classical sculpture period in Ancient Greece. My intention for these sculptures are to challenge the restrictive and unattainable standards for the human body present in the classical period. Depictions of the human body were limited to expressing ideas of harmony, beauty, and balance. By embracing the unappealing qualities of the human body, I aim to discredit the core principles of classical sculpture.
